Abstract
The purpose of this study is to review the current state of National Mental Health Institutes in the United States(NIMH, SAMHSA), looking especially at organizational structure and human resource administration in order to devise a strategy for establishing a National Institute of Mental Health in South Korea. The NIMH is comprised of one office and seven divisions. SAMHSA is comprised of four centers and six offices. These institutions are analyzed, paying special attention to the organization, office operation, budget allocation, and personnel for each institution. A comprehensive examination of these organizations was the key in developing a plan for the establishment of the K-NIMH. The goal of the K-NIMH is to promote mental health, prevent mental illness, and conduct nationwide mental health research.
